#TriSomethingNew: Novice Training Sessions

At Brighton Tri Club we're excited to be providing a series of special #TriSomethingNew training sessions for novices about to take part in the new Brighton & Hove Triathlon next month. Here's your chance as members to get involved.

The events are being sponsored by British Triathlon, the governing body for triathlon as part of their efforts to help more people get into our wonderful sport. And we've already linked up with coaches from other clubs in the area to provide something special.

Last month saw a successful, all women event under the This Girl Can banner, focused on Open Water Swimming. While the rest of us concentrated on the Falmer Tri, Head Coach Mike led an excellent team of coaches from other local clubs. The focus was on addressing any concerns and fears as well as practical questions that our newcomers had - taking them through the basics of preparing in transition, getting into a wetsuit, getting into the water and all the way through to swimming up close together. Read more on this story here.

We're now keen to build on the experience and hopefully attract more novices, especially those now just a few weeks away from the Brighton & Hove Triathlon on 11 September. The plan is for three more sessions:

- another Open Water Swim session for women and men, as before and working with a bigger team of coaches so as to be able to cater for more swimmers. This will be on Sunday 21 August.

- opening up the regular Brighton Tri Club Monday run the next evening, 22 August, with some extra emphasis on preparing for the run section in triathlons including warm ups, stretching, a little bit of specific strength work and relaxed, efficient running.

- finally on the Saturday morning that week, 27 August, we will open up the regular bike session at Preston Park, focusing in particular on the sublime art of transition. This will also be part of a nationwide set of events promoting the 'I am Team GB' campaign.

We are hoping these sessions will provide a great opportunity to introduce local novices to our Club and to other clubs in the area lending their coaches. That way hopefully their interest in our great sport will go beyond the race in September. So a call out to all members: come along particularly to the run and bike sessions and show what a welcoming, friendly bunch we are!
