Thursdays set will again be coached by Coach Matt and Coach Graeme. The focus is on catch, rotation and aerobic swimming. All front crawl other than a little backstroke :-)
Please bring some water, a pull buoy and fins (these are becoming more and more important for your training) if you have them. There is a £5 charge for this session unless you have paid for a block in advance - see Swim Fees for more details.
The drills will be Doggy paddle, Scull #2, 6-1-6 and 6-3-6.
If you have some time, check out these links to see the Swim Smooth technique for the drills.
- Doggy Paddle - note the way that he tips his fingers down just as he starts taking the stroke. Also note the rotation and the pushing back to the belly button level.
- Sculling - note the way that when he drops his wrists, he goes backwards! You need to keep your wrists above your fingers. Also note the twisting of the hand so that your palms face inwards and outwards. Scull #2 simply means that your arms are deeper in the water than Scull #1.
- 6-1-6 - note the taking of the breath AFTER the stroke and the way that his extended arm fingers are below his wrist, and his wrist is below his elbow at all times.
- 6-3-6 - note the very deliberate strokes, the bilateral breathing (breathing to both sides) and the fact that he is breathing AFTER the strokes again and not before.
The session is held at Brighton College Swimming Pool. Enter via the main gate off Eastern Road and ask the porters for directions to the pool. Bike parking is available down the steps next to the pool. Please do not park your bike on the steps or against the emergency exits.
