Thursdays set will be coached by Coach Mal and Coach Graeme. The focus is on high elbows, catch, rotation and aerobic swimming. All front crawl this week.
Please bring some water, a pull buoy and fins (these are becoming more and more important for your training) if you have them. There is a £5 charge for this session unless you have paid for a block in advance - see Swim Fees for more details.
The drills will be Finger drag, Scull #1, Broken Arrow and 6-3-6.
If you have some time, check out these links to see the Swim Smooth technique for the drills.
- Finger drag - note Paul Newsome's points about the use of high elbows when swimming in open water as opposed to swimming pools.
- Sculling - note the way that when he drops his wrists, he goes backwards! You need to keep your wrists above your fingers. Also note the twisting of the hand so that your palms face inwards and outwards.
- Broken Arrow - note the slow and deliberate, yet relaxed, arm movement, the breathing after the stoke and the slight over rotation of the body.
- 6-3-6 - note the very deliberate strokes, the bilateral breathing (breathing to both sides) and the fact that he is breathing AFTER the strokes again and not before.
The session is held at Brighton College Swimming Pool. Enter via the main gate off Eastern Road and ask the porters for directions to the pool. Bike parking is available down the steps next to the pool. Please do not park your bike on the steps or against the emergency exits.
