Training Sessions

We currently run adult training sessions every week of the year. A summary of the summer 2017 training sessions are shown below. We have some exciting developments in the pipeline, keep an eye on the Coaching Comms section on the Club Forum for any additional details of times, venues & expectations for each individual session:
  • TURBO: Monday evenings from 8.30 to 9.30pm is Turbo time! Starting again from 6 Nov
  • POOL SWIM: Tuesday evenings 8pm to 9pm - a 60 minute coached swim session at Wadurs pool in Shoreham. Please see here for details of how to pay in advance for swims and for days that the pool is unavailable
  • RUN: Wednesday evenings 8pm to 9pm - alternating weekly between track sessions at Withdean Stadium and road running sessions starting from Withdean Stadium
  • POOL SWIM: Thursday evenings 8pm to 9pm - a 60 minute coached swim session at Wadurs pool in Shoreham. Please see here for details of how to pay in advance for swims and for days that the pool is unavailable
  • BIKE/RUN BRICK: Saturday mornings 7.45 to 9.30am - a velodrome bike ride and optional brick session with Preston Park ParkRun
  • SOCIAL RIDE: Sunday morning group rides - normally 2 groups (fast & casual) on pre-arranged routes leaving from Small Batch Coffee in Seven Dials at 8am sharp

As a club we are committed to making your training and racing safe and enjoyable. Please read this list of some simple tips and common sense recommendations that we ask all members to read and consider.


60mins Track Running     

WHEN: Wednesday 1 Nov (then every other Wednesday) from 7.50 for an 8pm start

WHERE: Withdean Stadium

FORMAT: Coached track session focusing on technique, strength & pace, the perfect way to build running endurance and speed

COST: £3 for each Track session.

60mins Road Running  

WHEN: Wednesday 25 October (then every other Wednesday) from 7.50 for an 8pm start

FORMAT: coached road running session focusing on different running techniques

60mins Swim

WHEN: Tuesdays from 7.45 for an 8pm start.  Note that there are some days that the pool is not available.  These dates are noted under the Session Fees section on the Join Us page. Please check the Coaching Comms section of the Club Forum for more details.

FORMAT: 60 minute session of technique drills and intervals focusing on Critical Swim Speed.  Please bring some water, a pull buoy and fins if you have them. Whilst a number of the club coaches have had Pool Emergency Procedures and first aid training, wherever possible the club also provides an additional qualified Lifeguard at swim sessions.  When the club is not able to provide this additional cover you will be notified before you commence swimming.  

**All swimming is undertaken at your own risk**.

COST: £5 payable in cash on the door, unless, as a club member, you pay for a block in advance - see Swim Fees for more details.

Turbo training session - Starting 6 Nov 2017

WHEN: Mondays from 8.30 to 9.30pm, please arrive by 8.15 in order to set-up before the session starts. 

WHERE:  Withdean Stadium in the Activate Room - access is via the ramp heading down towards the track, turn right in the corridor and the room is on the left.

FORMAT: This is a coached session working on bike technique and building, or keeping a solid cycling base fitness over the winter. There are 10 club turbo trainers available but if you have your own please bring it along. Cycling indoors on a turbo trainer is hot work and you will sweat, please remember to bring your bike (make sure you have quick release wheels, most bikes have), a towel and plenty of water.  This is a great session, perfect for new members and experienced triathletes, the hard work will be accompanied with some choice music and a buzzy atmosphere  Please check the Coaching Comms section of the Club Forum for more details.

COST: £3.50 payable in cash on the door, 10 session blocks will be available to purchase shortly

Velodrome Brick session

WHEN: Saturdays from 7.45 to 9.30am (depending on whether or not you ParkRun). 

WHERE: Cycle track at the north east corner of Preston Park

FORMAT: This is a coached session working on bike handling skills and safety for beginners and intervals and speed work for more experienced riders on the cycle track. Helmets are compulsory. Please check the Coaching Comms section of the Club Forum for more details.

The second part of the session is the excellent (and free) 5k ParkRun - a perfect opportunity to prepare for races by 'running off the bike'.

Road & Off-Road Biking

WHEN: Sunday social rides and ad-hoc midweek rides

FORMAT: These are not coached sessions, more information on the Sunday morning social club rides can be found here.

Ad-hoc informal mid-week rides both on & off-road of various pace and distance are often arranged between club members. Please check the Club Forum and Bri Tri Facebook page for details.
