Wednesday 6th August was the date for another round of the Go Tri Pells Pool Aquathlon series. Yet again the weather was kind to us and the scene was perfectly set for some fast and fun evening racing.

The 50 competitors who lined up for the race certainly didn't disappoint on that score. Leading the charge for the men was Paul McCarthy who stormed home in 18:37, making light of both a slightly shaky start in a "boisterous" swim wave and his veteran status to show us all how it's done. Hot on his heels was Marlon Bouman, flaunting the rules of stricter racing by showing us that his six-pack matches his run speed and eliciting wolf-whistles to match the cheers on the finish line. 17 year-old Max Andrews took the junior male honours with a super-strong swim then pushing the older runners to deliver a good 5th place overall against some quality competition.

In the ladies race Katherine Emery was first home for a second time running, beating Phoebe Lebrecht into second place. Camilla Moyle was close behind and 1st lady veteran home.

Across the board we saw some strong swimming and running with many people bettering their previous performances (Mike Hannay and Alice Rowland both knocking a minute and a half off earlier times, for example) and a number of competitors trying multisport racing for the very first time. Congratulations to all of you!

If in the cold light of day your race experience still seems like a fun thing to do (?!) we hope you will keep working on your skills and fitness and that we will see you at a race or in training in the future. At Brighton Tri Club we are particularly looking forward to the Ringmer Triathlon on 17th August and the Brighton Multisports Triathlon on 14th September. There will be lots of us there in gold & blue trisuits and if you are competing - or coming along to cheer - please stop by and chat to us.

Keep training!
