Our Saturday morning cycling sessions at the Preston Park Velodrome are fully coached and structured, covering skills, intervals, time trials, group riding, race practice and transitions. Whether you're riding a velodrome for the first time or sharpening your speed for race season, there's something for everyone. The sessions run throughout the year, weather and other conditions permitting.

About the Venue

The Velodrome is a 579m flattish, tarmac circuit in the northeast corner of Preston Park. It’s the oldest velodrome in the United Kingdom, but don’t worry, the council has upgraded it in recent years! We’re very fortunate to have exclusive access to this historic venue every Saturday morning.

About the Session

The one-hour session starts at 7:45am — please arrive ready to ride at least five minutes before. We meet by the stand on the west side of the velodrome; the other gates will be locked before the session begins.

If you're new, let the coach know so they can run you through the track guidelines. Every session kicks off with a short introduction covering the plan and objective, followed by a warm-up and a main set that varies week to week. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions or if any terminology is unfamiliar.

After the session, there's the option to add a brick run at Preston Park Parkrun, which starts at 9am — bring your trainers and follow the group to the start line. Most members lock their bikes together around a tree nearby, and there's usually someone around to keep an eye on them.
