The Keirin - BriTri style

Last Saturday the Brighton Tri Club Saturday morning velo took a new turn with the introduction of the Keirin to our training programme. Our team of wannabe Sir Chris's put their honed quads into action on the track in what was one of the most fun training sessions that we've had - and given the innovative approach and energy that Coach Santi, Coach Mike and the rest of the team have put into this session in recent months that's really saying something!

For those of you not in the know, the Keirin is a race in which the start is controlled by use of a moped that ramps up the speed over time before allowing an all-out race to the finish. It's been an Olympic discipline since 2000 and an event in which our own Sir Chris Hoy specialised in. It's also great fun not only to watch, but also to race.

With many thanks to Mik and Catherine Onions for their fantastic turn as the Derny, we're looking forward to the return of the Keirin to a Velo training session soon, but whether it's racing for your breakfast or practicing your bike skills you can be sure of a great Saturday morning training session every time. See you there!
