The Club Championships is a friendly competition amongst our members each racing season. Earn points by completing one or more of the Club Champs races listed below, and the person with the most points at the end of the season wins. With many different categories and age groups, everyone has a chance to see their name on a plaque or trophy at the end of the season.

2024 Races

The number of points you’re awarded for each race is based on your finish time compared to the winning time of your age group. Don’t worry, we’ll handle all the maths for you. Just swim, bike and run and we’ll do the rest!

For the Novice, Sprint and Standard Champs, your best three scores of the season are added up as your final points total, so the more races you enter, the better your chances are at winning a Club Champs title. For all other Champs, your best (or only) time counts as points total. The race must be before on or before 1 October 2024.

Middle Distance

Middle distance races, such as an Ironman 70.3, are longer than a Standard triathlon but shorter than a full Ironman distance. They’re a great way to challenge yourself further or as a stepping stone towards longer distance racing.

You can enter any National or International race on or before 1 October 2024. The race result used must have been from a chip-timed event, AND the results must be in 5 year age group bands. The event must include the regular distances of 1900m open water swim, 90k bike and 21k run.

Long Distance

Long distance, sometimes called full distance, triathlons typically include a 3.8k swim, 180k bike and a full marathon run.

You can enter any National or International race on or before 1 October 2024. The race result used must have been from a chip timed event, AND the results must be in 5 year age group bands. The event must include the regular distances of 3800m open water swim, 180k bike and 42k run or for ITU long distance races, 3000m swim, 120 km bike and 30 km run.

Novice

The Novice Cup is for club members who want to complete their first ever triathlon this year. Register for any of the events in the Sprint or Standard championships and start earning points.

JUST FOR FUNSIES:

RELAY

Southwater Relays – 8 September 2024 www.rawenergypursuits.co.uk

While Southwater Relays isn’t part of the Club Champs, this event is a club favourite, so we wanted to get it in your diary. It’s the most social race of the year, with 120 teams of three competing, and it’s part of the TESE Senior Series. The event is well known for being quite unusual (and slightly mad) in terms of race format and therefore attracts a lot of attention and spectators! Look out for instructions soon on how to sign up for a BriTri relay team and earn points for the club in the TESE Senior Series.

Southwater 2023

Triathlon England South East Region Club Senior Series

As well as competing against your fellow members for the Club Champs titles, you can also represent your club in the Triathlon England South East (TESE) Senior Series and help us compete against other clubs in our region.

More information on the series can be found here

2024 TESE SENIOR SERIES RACES

There’s no need to do anything extra to participate in the TESE Senior Series. When registering for any of these races, simply indicate your club as Brighton Tri Club on the registration form, and you’ll automatically earn points for our club by racing. Be sure not to misspell or use any other variation of Brighton Tri Club.

Note: Some events may have permits awaiting review. The event has submitted (or will be submitting) the required documentation for a permit. You need to satisfy yourself as to the organiser’s refund policy on cancellation and postponement. This list is subject to change, given the ongoing situation.

Club Champs Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Club Champs Rules?

The top 6 things you need to know about the 2024 Club Champs:

Am I eligible?.......
You must be a member of the club and enter the races as specified for the Club Champs category.

What are the race categories?.......
The Club Champs are for Open and Women classification in each of the following categories:
Novice Cup (never ever completed a triathlon)
Sprint distance
Standard/Olympic distance
Middle distance
Long distance Champs (including Ironman and ITU)

Is there an age limit?
There is no age limit on participation. If you are old enough to enter the races, then you are old enough to participate in the club champs. How old you need to be to participate in any given event is a decision taken by individual race organisers. If you're on the results sheet, you're in the champs.

What are the Rules?.......
The most important rule is to have fun and enjoy it!

The small print:......
When registering for a race, you must put Brighton Tri Club as your club name.

If you misspell the club name or use any variation other than Brighton Tri Club (such as Bri Tri, Brighton Triathlon Club, etc.), 25 points will be deducted from your score.

If no club name is included, you will not receive any points for that race.

For the middle and long distance categories, you must let the Championships and Fixtures Officer (Mark Stevenson) know, otherwise we will not know about it and not be able to count your points.

If you have never completed a triathlon before.......
To be eligible for the Novice Cup, the race you enter in the Club Champs must be your first ever triathlon. Please let me know, and you will be entered in the Novice cup.
Any challenges should be made to the Championships and Fixtures Officer. Their decision will be final and not subject to appeal.

How do I score points?........
If you enter any of the specified Sprint or Standard races, you don’t need to do anything except spell your name and the club, Brighton Tri Club, correctly on the entry forms and turn up on the day. If you enter any other race (Middle and Long distance), you must submit to the Championships and Fixtures Officer your
performances, providing the following information:

    1. Race name

    2. Race date

    3. Your finish time

    4. Winner of your age group’s finish time

    5. Working link to online results (URL)

You can earn up to 1,000 points for each race you complete.

For the Sprint and Standard Champs, your best three scores of the season are added up as your final points total. For all other Champs, your best (or only) time counts as your points total.

How are the points calculated?...
(T1 / T2) x 1000 = Points
T1 is the winner’s time in the athlete’s age group, and T2 is the athlete’s time. Elites are discounted. If you win an event in your age group, you will score 1000 points. In the other classifications, your best score of all your races will be your final score.

For example, if the person who won your age group crossed the finish line in 2 hours, and your time was 4 hours. You would receive 500 points for that race.

2 hours divided by 4 hours = 0.5

0.5 multiplied by 1,000 = 500 points

The person with the most points will win the Champs.

If you are the only athlete competing within your age group at any given event then you will be moved into the next age group above (older) for scoring purposes. If there are no athletes in any older age group then you will be moved to the next age group below. This is unlikely to happen but prevents scoring 1000 points by being declared the age group winner as default.
