COURSES
This year we have new out and back courses. The start and finish are adjacent to Sea Lanes, making it easier for family and friends to follow the race and be there to cheer you on.
All three swims take place between the iconic Brighton Pier (Palace Pier) and the western wall of Brighton Marina, with the regency seafront of Brighton and Hove to look back on.
The 5km course will take you out from the beach, turning right around the buoy and heading west towards the Brighton Pier. You'll then make two 90-degree left turns at the first and second turn buoys and then swim towards the Marina, where you'll make two more 90-degree left turns. Then, you'll return parallel to the beach before taking a final right turn around the buoy towards the beach to finish.
The 2.5km swim starts with a straight swim from the beach, followed by a right turn towards the pier. You will need to make two 90-degree left turns at the first and second turn buoys. After that, you will head east parallel to the beach towards the Marina before making a final left turn around the buoy that leads back to the beach for the finish.
For the 750m, after swimming out towards the pier, you will turn back parallel to the beach, heading towards the Marina, before turning again and swimming back to the finish.
Please note that the tide will be ebbing and flowing during the swim, so swimmers' times to complete the course may vary. The course route at the time of planning and laying will be the advertised distance unless conditions force us to alter the course on the day. We cannot guarantee a definite distance for all swimmers.
MORE DETAILS
The event is open to everyone, and with Blue Response Ltd. providing safety cover, you can be assured of your safety. However, as it is a long way in open water, we advise that you be a reasonably confident swimmer and have some prior sea swimming experience before you take part. DB Max Sports Timing will provide chip timing for each swimmer, and prizes will be awarded to the first Male and female in the 5K and 2.5K swims. At the end of the swim, each swimmer will receive a medal and a discounted celebratory drink at Bison Bar!
The check-in and start point for the swims is at Sea Lanes, 300 Madeira Drive, Brighton, BN2 1BX. The exact location will be confirmed shortly before the event. All swimmers must present themselves to the check-in well before their swim to confirm attendance and complete the necessary course and safety briefings.
We will email a complete set of instructions to swimmers the week before the swim.
