Just another Sunday in Sussex
/Sussex was a hotbed for triathlon this morning; with Arundel Castle Triathlon, Southwater Sprint Relay and Sussex Triathlon! With three beautiful races to choose from, we had Bri Tri athletes zipping up the blue and gold all over Sussex.
Arundel Castle Triathlon
In only it's second year after a test event in 2014, Arundel Castle Triathlon was a huge success for Raw Energy Pursuits. Set in the iconic market town of Arundel, the triathlon includes a 1500m fast swim down the Arun river, 40km bike lap and a 10km run through the historic town.
A misty start and a cold swim tested the athletes but the course was full of team spirit and support. As part of our Club Champs and Super Series, it was all to play for. We are awaiting the results but for now, pleased to announce that Chairwoman Rachel placed as 2nd Vet, winning her AG and Thomas Garner finished 3rd Male.
Southwater Sprint Relay
Hosted by our friends the Horsham Amphibians, the Southwater Sprint relay is a team challenge in the wondrous setting of Southwater country park. Relay triathlon, each competitor completes swim, bike, run, then hands over to next; 3 athletes per team.
With a similarly cold start to Arundel, the athletes braving the first leg began the race with a chilly 400m OW swim, 18.5km bike ride and a 3.8km run consisting of two loops of the country park lake before handing over to the next athlete.
As the sun broke throughout the morning, the park was alive with triathletes and it was fantastic to see so many clubs from near and far. This year we had two teams, the Lads and the Lasses. With both teams including a debut triathlete, Zak for the Lads and Gemma for the Lasses. Impressively, the Lads stole 3rd place in the Vets category despite a 2min penalty!
Sussex Triathlon
With three distances on offer (sprint/standard/middle), Sussex triathlon is always an exciting race to be a part of. Set against the stunning backdrop of Ashburnham Place, the course includes an OW lake swim, a challenging bike section around the Sussex lanes and a run through the stunning grounds.
Congratulations to Brighton Tri's Mat Commons, Phillip King and Kieran Green for racing Sussex 2015!
